Peace Corps Survives DOGE – for Now

Note from the Editor, by Paul Barker, Editor

Our shared experiences as Peace Corps Volunteers in Iran have drawn us together in an organization to remember and celebrate a country whose people, culture, language, art, and architecture we grew to love. Yet, as the Peace Corps Iran Association enters its final year, it is a source of sadness and anxiety to recognize that the future of the Peace Corps itself is uncertain. The Trump administration is demanding steep budget cuts which will lead to reductions pf 40% staff in PC headquarters and 25% of staff in country offices. It is intended that volunteer numbers will not be affected at this time. Peace Corps is surviving at a time when USAID and some other significant government bodies are not. PCIA members are encouraged to track evolving issues on Peace Corps at the RPCV website and to use advocacy tools at that site to write to Senators and Members of Congress to urge them to maintain and support funding and support for the Peace Corps.
