An award-winning documentary film “A Move,” directed by Elahe Esmaili, shows the continuing effect of protests over the death of Mahsa Amini on the life of a typical family in Mashad. If the remarkable 2024 film “Seed of the Sacred Fig” explores the horrible disintegration of an oppressor’s family, “A Move” shows how a traditional family that does not participate in government repression adapts to the new realities evolving in Iran today. That journey will undoubtedly bring tears to returned volunteers’ eyes as we experience a family gardesh in a private bagh that could have included us in the 1970s.
