Iranian Nomads:  Past, Present, and Future

“Nomads in Iran:  Past, Present, and Future”

Are there still nomads in Iran?  Do some tribes still migrate from winter pastures to summer pastures?  How have they adapted their traditional pastorialism to the 21st century?  What role has education played in nomadic families, their traditional livestock economy, and tribal society?  What other major socio-economic factors affect their social structures and traditional and newer livelihoods?  Two educators, Ashkbous Talabi and Mahdi Gharakhlou, both of Qashqa’I origin and educated in and educating others in the pre-Islamic Revolution tribal education system, will answer these and many more question during this panel.
