It is very easy to get to the Smithsonian Asian Art Museum. You can take the Metro to the Smithsonian stop via the Orange, Blue, and Silver lines. The closest Metro station to the conference hotel is Metro Center; in fact, there is an entrance to the Metro station from the hotel parking entrance. At Metro Center you can catch trains heading south and west to the Smithsonian stop, the second stop. Then walk three minutes to the Museum entrance on the Mall side (the Freer Gallery entrance). The Asian Art Museum is underground connecting with the Freer Gallery. It also has an above ground entrance off the Smithsonian garden.
