Elham Gheytanchi

Elham Gheytanchi is a sociology professor at Santa Monica College. Born in Tehran, she immigrated to the US in 1989.  After earning BA and MA degrees at the University of California Los Angeles, she completed advanced doctoral studies in sociology there.  Her research focuses on Iranian culture, politics, and media with specific emphasis on gender roles, laws and policies in the Middle East and North Africa. Among her many publications is “A Revolutionary Tradition:  Shoars [slogans] in Iranian Street Politics,” which appeared in Words without Borders in 2009.
